The movie is inspired by, Dragonfly (2002), a film by Kevin Costner. Again Basu was disappointed, as the movie was a flop. 2004 Murder was Anurag Basu first hit. The movie based on Hollywood movie Unfaithful, starred Imran Hashmi, Ashmit Patel and Mallika Sherawat and showed bold sex scenes, which were unusual in Indian Cinema. The movie got an A certificate. Music, acting, direction, all were appreciated a lot not only by the public but also the film critics. He was nominated at International Film Academy Award for Best Story for Murder. In the same year, Anurag worked with Mukesh Bhatt banner for the movie Tum Sa Nahi Dekha (2004). During the shooting of the movie, the director was diagnosed with Blood Cancer. Anurag shot parts of the movie from hospital bed through Dictaphones. Mahesh Bhatt and Mohit Suri later .pleted the film. Again Anurag got lucky with Vishesh Films and directed another movie under the banner. The movie was named Gangster (2006). The movie starred Kangana Ranaut, Shiney Ahuja, Emraan Hashmi. The movie is supposed to be based on Abu Salem real life affair with Monica Bedi. Gangster was a success though not big as MURDER (2004). Anurag got nominated at Star Screen Best Director Award, Star Screen Best Screenplay Award, and International Film Academy award for Best Screenplay for the movie. Anurag Basu gave his next hit in 2007 with the movie, Life In A Metro (2007). Pritam gave music of the movie and was a huge success adding to the success of the movie. The critics appreciated the movie too. People appreciated the casting of the movie, which included Shilpa Shetty, Shiney Ahuja, Nafisa Ali, Dharmendra, Konkana Sen Sharma, Imran Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kangana Ranaut and Kay Kay Menon. The movie got several Awards. Anurag Basu won Filmfare Best Screenplay Award, and IIFA Best Screenplay award and International Film Academy award for Best Screenplay for the movie. He got several nominations for the same. Anurag also directed a television drama in 2007. The show was named as Love Story starring Mishal Raheja and Payal Sarkar in the lead. Anurag Basu directed Kites a movie starring Hritik Roshan, Mexican actress model Barbara Mori and Kangana Ranaut. The movie was much awaited in 2010. It was well publicized and people were looking forward to watch the movie. But it turned to be a disappointment and it failed to entertain public and collect money. It failed .mercially. Though the movie was first Indian Film in US top 10 but it failed to get appreciation from Indian market. The people outside India liked it more.
